TUESDAY

Been awhile – We just returned from 3 weeks at the Lake. Celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversay with a night and dinner at the Narrow Guage Railroad below Yosemite. This year we had a room so we didn’d have to drive back. This is our favorite dining place for our anniversay. Also the first of this month was two years since Karens stroke and she is doing very well. She walked down one day with her beach chair and spent the afternoon in the sun on the boat dock like she use to always do and it was great to see her back doing things she loves to do. She really enjoys the stairs and deck for the clothes line and was up and down that daily weather permitting.

Karen is talking on the phone now and answers emails so our
home phone is (831)421-0211 and email is ninerart@sbcglobal.net.

Hope all is well with everyone – Happy Birthday last week to Shiela, Tona A., Lilly and this weekend to son Anthony(Tony).

THURSDAY

Back again – been awhile but lets see – Karens year and a half checkup at UCSF went very well. Her MRI and tests all came out good and they were very postive on her progress. One of the Nero Drs. had called and wanted her to come in early to do some tests for a study he was doing on strokes so she said yes and went thru that.

She had her eye exam recently and even though she still lacks the right side vision her eye strenth has improved and her eye Dr. was happy to see that.

We’ve been back and forth to the lake doing projects and are taking off today to put in a safe walk down to the laundry line so she can take the laundry down to hand.

Happy birthday Friday to D.I.L. Jen!!

Good luck to Marsha and Jack heading to N.Y.

MONDAY

Had a great trip to Orlando – was really muggy and boy did we have some beauty thunder, lightning and rain storms in the afternoons. Karen enjoyed the Hotel living – we stayed at a beautiful hotel by Disney and she would go down to the pool in the mornings while I attended my meetings and in the afternoons we take off walking around the area and nearby disney park. On the last day I had to be there all day so she took off in the afternoon and walked over to the park and bought me a shirt for fathers day – what a girl.

On our arrival back to SFO had a real nice surprise when we saw our angel Beverly from UCSF at the waiting gate – she was waiting for her son to arrive and was surprised to see us walking up – it was great to see you Bev!!

I’m a day late but Happy Fathers day to all you Dads out there.

Here are a couple great pictures of Karen in Orlando.

WEDNESDAY

Got back from the lake last Friday but we both have been very busy since then. Had a great two weeks at the lake – Karen did a lot of walking and climbing steps and hills. We took a road trip to Tulare to visit her folks graves and stopped by her Aunts to have lunch and visit with her and Karens cousins. Had our homeowners meeting and they were all glad to see her at the meeting. Got to visit Michelle on one of our stops at the Forks and had a good La Cabana meal with the Quilter clan. Karen enjoyed going out on the boat ever though she had to put up with the Chief and I. All in all was a very relaxing and enjoyable respite for Karen and she really had a great time. (See picture of Karen and Chief with my 49 bags of needles headed to the dump)

Monday had a new fence put in here, yesterday had counseling then we cleaned up yard after fence construction. Today Karen had an MRI for her upcoming year and a half follow-up at UCSF the end of this month. Tomorrow she has a follow-up with rehab Dr. Jett. Right now she is taking a little break as she has worked so hard for the last year and a half that it seems like its break time and then get back to some sort of exercise program when she feels the need.

This weekend we take off for Orlando, Florida for a Union Utility meeting and will be there for about 5 days.

Happy birthday to Eileen Friday and Big Sis Marsha Saturday.

THURSDAY

We are finally back to our time zone and daily things. Karen spent the last week getting back to home type exercises with voice and balance. It was a great trip but it is also good to be home and see our friends.

Today we head to the lake for a couple of weeks – got a lot of needles to clean up before summer and a home owners meeting on the holiday weekend.

Hope everyone had a Happy Mothers Day!!

Happy birthday to Ray Jay while we’re gone.

TUESDAY

Well we made it back – 3 weeks from home and it has taken us a few days to get used to the time zones we went thru.  We started off flying to Miami and spent a couple days there then boarded our cruise ship and spent 5 days a sea crossing the Atlantic and arriving in the Azores, Ponta Delgado.  Spent two days there and then a day at sea then arrived for a day in Lisbon where we saw the city and then went to Fatima.  From there it was off to Spain and the first stop was Cadis/Seville.  From there we went into the Med. and stopped next at Malaga (where we had great tapas).  The next day was Valencia where we docked and could see all the america cup sail boats in the next harbor.  Next day was Barcalona where we got off the ship and spent a couple days seeing the city and eating lots of paella while sitting over the harbor and beach.  We then flew to New York (really zoned out) and spent the night with Amanda, Todd and their family.  We had a great visit and then it was off to see Simon in Utica which was about 3-4 hours away.  Stayed a couple nights there and he showed us around and took me to my Navy ships museum.  On the way back to New York we stopped at Orange County Choppers and Tim and Mary had a great time seeing all their people from the tv show, then to West Point and to the hotel at the airport and then home the next morning after 3 weeks away.

Karen had a wonderful time and got a lot of walking in during our ports of call.  At one point on the ship when we were going to dinner down our hall way she laughed and said it was cool walking on the ship as everyone walked like her!!  She really relaxed and had just a wonderful time even though she was couped up with me for that long.  Tim and Mary were the greatest travel partners and we had a great time with them and love to you two.   Sorry to bore you all with all that but some probably wondered what we did.

Our prayers and hearts are with our dear friend Shiela right now as we found out on our return that she had lost her son.

Happy birthday last week to Mary B., today to Simon, end of the week Christina, and next week Marlene.

Been awhile but we have been pretty busy.  Last week Karen had her last Speech Therapy so now it is on our own from now on.  She will continue her swimming and pilate to compliment her home exercises.  She has been very diligent on doing her exercises and also does tai chi with a tape at home for balance and tone.

Today is pack it up day as tomorrow we leave for Miami to start our vacation to Portugal, Spain and New York.  Will be gone for 3 weeks and will miss you all!!  But will have plenty of pictures.

Happy 25th to the Bundys!!

MONDAY

Last Monday was Karens last OT with Terryn – they went to lunch together and discussed all that Karen has done and what she can continue doing.  We can’t tell Terryn how greatful we are to her for all her care and support – another Angel is now a good friend.  Karen will continue her Wed. swimming and Thur pilate with doing exercises on her own during the week.  She has been studying the DMV book and knows it by heart so when time comes she will be ready for the test.  Friday she went in for her blood pressure check and it was normal so looks like that is under control now.

We are getting things around the house and yard organized as in less than two weeks we will be joining Bro Tim and Sis Mary for a two week cruise from Miami to Portugal and Spain.  We will then fly from Barcelona to New York and and then maybe spend a few days there visiting their son Simon and my Godchild Mandy and her clan.  We are both looking forward to this adventure and will consider this our early 25th Anniversay trip together.

Happy birthdays to Gordon, Renee and Woody.

SATURDAY

Got back from the lake the middle of the week.  We had a great time – the weather was like summer and nobody was up there.  Karen had some good walk workouts and even did our 60 steps to hell for the first time – if you haven’t been to the lake they are the rock steps from the lake up to the house and have no rail!!  She also drove me in the Bug around the lake a couple of time to go visit the Chief.  She really is doing well with the driving and next will be a try on some busy roads.

Did her swimming and pilate this week – took her walk to Safeway to go grocery shopping while I was golfing Wed. and carried a couple bags back.  Checked her blood pressure and it is still a tad high so is taking some other medication starting today.  Dr. said it is nothing to worry about but she just has to keep a check on it for awhile.

Happy Birthday to niece Tiffany this week, Bill Raffo last week and to neighbor Sandy tomorrow.
